The Best Faux Plants for Your Front Porch

Faux plants have become a great alternative to real deal. Not only are they visually appealing and low maintenance, but they can also be more affordable or similar in price to real plants and require none of the maintenance like watering or pruning.

Faux plants are a great option for elevating your front porch because they can add an element of greenery to your outdoor space without the need to have a green thumb. They also come in a variety of shapes and sizes, making it easy to find the perfect faux plant to fit your desired aesthetic. One advantage is that they are incredibly low maintenance. Because they don’t require any maintenance, they are also a great option for those who have a busy lifestyle, travel often, or don’t have the time needed to care for real plants.

In addition, with the right placement and paired with the right pottery, faux plants can look just as good as the real thing. They also last longer than real plants, making them a more cost-effective option in the long run. So, if you’re looking to add some greenery to your front porch without the hassle of maintaining real plants, then faux plants are the way to go. Let’s jump in and explore some of the best faux plants to decorate your front porch, and how to pair them with the perfect pottery.

See how I’m styling my front porch with all faux plants for the second year in a row, here.

Consider the Size and Scale

When selecting faux plants for your front porch, consider the size and scale of both the plants and your porch space. Choose plants that are proportionate to the area and complement the overall aesthetic. For larger porches, tall and bushy faux trees or plants can create a grand and inviting atmosphere. On the other hand, smaller porches may benefit from smaller pots or hanging baskets that add a touch of greenery without overwhelming the space. Keep the size and scale in mind to create a balanced look.

Choose Realistic and High-Quality

To ensure that your faux plants look as close to the real thing as possible, invest in high-quality and realistic options. Look for the ones that have natural-looking leaves, vibrant colors, and realistic textures. Avoid plants that appear overly plastic or cheaply made. Quality faux plants will have intricate details that mimic the organic beauty of the real thing, allowing you to create an inviting and lush atmosphere on your front porch. Realistic, high-quality faux plants are also great for indoors, too!

Mix and Match with the Right Pottery

Using the right pottery is essential for achieving a cohesive and stylish look on your front porch. Consider the color, texture, and material of the pottery to complement the aesthetic of the faux plants and your overall outdoor design. Earthy tones, such as terracotta or ceramic pots, can create a rustic or Mediterranean vibe, while sleek and modern planters in neutral shades can lend a contemporary touch. Additionally, mixing different sizes and shapes of pottery can add visual interest and dimension to your porch decor.

Decorating Your Front Porch for the Holidays

You’ve decked the halls inside, and you might have even hung Christmas lights on your house. But what about the front porch? The front porch is one of my favorite spots to decorate because it’s one of the first things your guests see when the come over. It should be a warm and welcoming place that is an extension of the decor that you use inside. Today’s post is all about decorating your front porch for the holidays, and everything you need to make it festive and inviting.

For inspiration on how to make the perfect holiday centerpiece, you’ll love this post HERE.

Decorating Your Front Porch for the Holidays

This year, I went all in with faux garland and trees. I love the wintery forest feel, and how rustic it looks. Keep reading to see how I got this look!

Start with Your Door Decor

I started with this evergreen wreath and jazzed it up with deep burgundy velvet ribbon and added some bells to hang in the center. It’s amazing what you can do with a few little extra touches to make it your own. Secure the wreath to the door with a Command hook.

Next, I added faux garland around the door frame to give the whole look height. I hung one cedar twig garland on each side of the door, vertically, so the garland touches the ground. Then I hung a full, 4-foot faux spruce garland, horizontally. I love the variation of the two different branches.

Add in Faux Trees

To give more height and texture to the overall look of the front porch decor, I used varied heights of faux, pre-lit trees. Arrange the tallest tree in the back. Then add two smaller trees in front of the larger tree. Repeat the same arrangement on the other side of the door.

To make sure the trees have a uniform look, I opted to put them in matching pots of different sizes. These pots are perfect to use because you can use them beyond the holidays as well. They’re also a great price point. I decided to keep them as is with just lights for a natural, organic look. But you can certainly add ribbon, ornaments or other decor to match your own personal decor style.

Sprinkle in Other Decor

I went with a doormat you can use year round. I think buffalo plaid is a universal pattern that looks beautiful no matter what season we’re in. This one is also washable. Just throw it in the washer, and it will look brand new. Then, I layered this wreath doormat from McGee & Co.

To add a touch of glam and more lighting to the porch, I positioned these gold lanterns in front of the trees. I use these battery operated candles in each of them. With a click of remote control, I can turn them off and on. So easy and convenient! Finish the look with a vintage-looking sleigh.

Adding Spooky Touches to Your Fall Front Porch

The countdown to Halloween has begun, and adding Spooky Touches to Your Fall Front Porch is sure to make this festive celebration a scream! I recently shared How to Decorate Your Front Porch for Fall, using in-season florals, pumpkins, and other decor pieces. Instead of swapping out your entire front porch display for Halloween, layer in a few spooky accents that highlight your existing theme. Mixing in some spine-tingling and spooktacular decor is the perfect way to instantly go from all the fall feels to frightfully fun!

Skeletons, Spiders, and Bats, Oh My!

Skeletons are a simple but fun way to add a spooky vibe to your front porch. A hay bale creates the perfect seat for your bone-chilling greeter to say hello to your trick-or-treaters. He might even speak when spooken to! Get creative by adding clothing for a less frightful look. Make no bones about it, outdoor furniture on your front porch makes for great props. Add a skeleton or two for some extra Halloween flare!

Swap out your fall-inspired wreath with something a bit darker. This not only evokes a subtle side of eerie but makes a high-spirited statement. It’s a simple yet festive way to add Halloween chills and thrills to your front door. The doormat is another easy and affordable addition. Scare up a little fun this year and opt for mats with bats, jack o’lanterns, or Halloween sayings.

Oversized spiders are on-trend this season. You can easily add them to the front of your house for an added creepy crawly look and pair them with a side of web for a simply fang-tastic appeal! If 6 to 8 feet arachnoid makes you feel like a Halloweenie, opt for smaller options that are simply too cute to be scary!

To make your porch pop with fright, try adding these stylish bats around the outside of your door. Not only will they give the illusion of taking flight but will make your guests instantly go batty. I recommend using painter’s tape to keep these birds of a feather from flying away into the night.

Spooky Ceiling Decor

Adding spooky touches to your fall front porch includes hanging boo-tiful decor from the ceiling. Experiment with skeletons, bats, spiders, or even festive lights. It’s the perfect way to add dimension, naturally drawing the eye to shadowy shapes while setting the mood for an enchanting Halloween night.

To hang, simply string fishing wire through the top of your decor. Use multiple knots at the end of the wire or a small amount of glue to keep things secure. Attach the string to the ceiling with a thumb tack or a command hook and hang at varying heights for an eye-catching frightful display.

Pumpkins to Jack-o’-lanterns

Carve out some good times by taking your assortment of pumpkins from your fall front porch and giving them a spooky makeover. Sweeten up this holiday into by making it a family affair that even the kiddos will enjoy. This frightfully fun activity is sure to be a crowdpleaser! There is magic in the night when pumpkins glow with candlelight, so add a flameless candle for a flickering warm glow.

How to Decorate Your Front Porch for Fall

As the seasons change, it’s fun to give spaces throughout your home a little refresh. Simple things like adding real or faux seasonal florals to vases and swapping out throw pillows and blankets make such a difference. But what about your outdoor spaces? Your front porch is the first place you or your guest sees and an extension of your home decor. Today, I’m sharing how to decorate your front porch for fall and create an inviting space that flows inside out!

When thinking about your front porch decor, consider the design elements inside of your home. Do you use more neutral colors or elevated vibrant colors? The color palette of your front porch should be an extension of the color theme used inside of your home.

Start with a Wreath

I like to start the design of my porch with a beautiful seasonal wreath! It’s the perfect way to welcome stunning autumn shades right to your front door. I chose a muted, neutral wreath to match the overall color palette of my home. The yellow hues intermixed with greenery make an instant statement and pop against the black door. When you’re looking for a fall wreath, look for fall florals with eucalyptus, aster, ornamental grasses, or goldenrod.

Layer in Doormats

Once you’ve chosen a wreath, add a doormat to start layering out the base of your fall front porch design. Combining two different doormats creates depth, adds texture, and is on-trend this season. The base rug should be roughly 3 feet by 5 feet, so it’s still visible when adding the second mat. Have fun with your base rug by choosing an eye-catching bold pattern or color. Ensure the rug is made for outdoor spaces or indoor/outdoor, extending the life of your rug for seasons to come.

Next, add your top rug. Aim for 2 feet by 3 feet, so it fits well against your base rug. I like a classic, timeless top rug that I can use throughout each season. The heavy-duty coir material of the top rug is perfect for high-traffic areas, keeping dirt and debris outside where it belongs!

Add in Planters and Seasonal Fall Decor

how to decorate your front porch for fall

Once your wreath and rugs are in place, it’s time to add height and texture with florals. Start with two or three planters for each side of your door. Vary the heights to give your porch dimension. I love something thick and sturdy, for a more modern and timeless look. Next, add in your flowers and greenery. Some great fall florals to consider are: mums, flowering kale, feathered reed grass, beautyberries, and amaranthus. You can also add candle lanterns to break up your pots.

Finish the decor with heirloom or regular pumpkins in front of your planters. Play around with the placement of your pumpkins. Stack them up (remove the stems for easy stacking) or lay them vertically against a planter or two. You can also include a small bench on your porch to place a planter or candle lantern for added height while creating extra cozy fall vibes!
