When thinking about your front porch decor, consider the design elements inside of your home. Do you use more neutral colors or elevated vibrant colors? The color palette of your front porch should be an extension of the color theme used inside of your home.

Start with a Wreath

I like to start the design of my porch with a beautiful seasonal wreath! It’s the perfect way to welcome stunning autumn shades right to your front door. I chose a muted, neutral wreath to match the overall color palette of my home. The yellow hues intermixed with greenery make an instant statement and pop against the black door. When you’re looking for a fall wreath, look for fall florals with eucalyptus, aster, ornamental grasses, or goldenrod.

Layer in Doormats

Once you’ve chosen a wreath, add a doormat to start layering out the base of your fall front porch design. Combining two different doormats creates depth, adds texture, and is on-trend this season. The base rug should be roughly 3 feet by 5 feet, so it’s still visible when adding the second mat. Have fun with your base rug by choosing an eye-catching bold pattern or color. Ensure the rug is made for outdoor spaces or indoor/outdoor, extending the life of your rug for seasons to come.

Next, add your top rug. Aim for 2 feet by 3 feet, so it fits well against your base rug. I like a classic, timeless top rug that I can use throughout each season. The heavy-duty coir material of the top rug is perfect for high-traffic areas, keeping dirt and debris outside where it belongs!

Add in Planters and Seasonal Fall Decor

Once your wreath and rugs are in place, it’s time to add height and texture with florals. Start with two or three planters for each side of your door. Vary the heights to give your porch dimension. I love something thick and sturdy, for a more modern and timeless look. Next, add in your flowers and greenery. Some great fall florals to consider are: mums, flowering kale, feathered reed grass, beautyberries, and amaranthus. You can also add candle lanterns to break up your pots.

Finish the decor with heirloom or regular pumpkins in front of your planters. Play around with the placement of your pumpkins. Stack them up (remove the stems for easy stacking) or lay them vertically against a planter or two. You can also include a small bench on your porch to place a planter or candle lantern for added height while creating extra cozy fall vibes!
