How to Create a Holiday Centerpiece

‘Tis the season to break out the tinsel, garland, and ribbon to decorate our homes for the holidays. One of my favorite things to decorate with is greenery, specifically garland. Beyond mantels and banisters, I also love incorporating greenery into floral arrangements. Whether displayed on coffee tables, entryway consoles, or anywhere else in your home, seasonal greenery and florals effortlessly add beauty to your space. Today, I’m sharing how to create a holiday-inspired centerpiece, ideal for any room in your home.

Greenery isn’t just for decorating your home. Try adding to wrapped gifts for an extra festive holiday touch! To see how I wrap my gifts, check out this post HERE and then head over to my Instagram for holiday greenery styling tutorials and even more seasonal inspiration!

A Follower Favorite Centerpiece

This centerpiece was a follower favorite from last Christmas and the arrangement style is perfect for those places that don’t necessarily require height. Think coffee or dining room table. It might be small but it’s definitely not short on style thanks to it’s full, festive, and vibrant holiday appeal. To create the look of this centerpiece, stick with neutral colors like whites, silvers, golds, grays, and greens throughout.

When choosing a bowl for your floral arrangement, consider the overall color scheme of your holiday decor. I love this white option from Pottery Barn with it’s neutral modern design that can be used throughout the year, simply by swapping the decor. With both black and white color options available, it easily blends with any home design or decor style.

I used a variety of faux stems in this arrangement, including juniper, eucalyptus, and cedar stems to create varying layers of texture. Once your greenery is added, layer in different-sized ball ornaments. For a cohesive look, use the same or similar ornaments from your tree. Beyond a seamless look throughout your space, its the perfect way to use up those extra ornaments.

I still love this large centerpiece I made last year. I styled this arrangement in my foyer and I absolutely love how full and lush it looks against the neutral white walls.

For this look, start with a small faux Norfolk pine tree or something similar and place it in a large ceramic pot. Fill in any empty space within the pot with packaging materials. This will help keep the stems in place that you’ll be adding to the arrangement. If your tree sits too low inside the pot, add extra packaging materials underneath it or prop it up using a small book or block that will add height to the tree. Ideally, you want most of the tree visible from the rim of the pot.

Next, add individual stems to fill out the pot, giving the arrangement added height and texture. I prefer combining two to three styles of base stems within the arrangement for dimension. To complete this look, add roughly five accent branches. You can experiment with faux cedar greenery, pine cone stems, and berry branches until your desired look is achieved.

I was able to repurpose some of the same stems I used in last year’s arrangement to create a whole new look this year! I also changed up the placement of this larger piece, opting for the console table in the living room, with a smaller decorative tree in the foyer. It turned out beautifully and makes the perfect subtle festive statement that doesn’t detract from the staple statement piece of the room, the Christmas tree.
